The 1st Bytom Rifle Regiment was a regular unit of the Polish Army, which was formed from volunteers from Upper Silesia. In November 1918, they arrived in the area of reborn Poland in Częstochowa, where they reported to the command of the Polish Military Organization. Due to the growing influx of Upper Silesians, the Supreme Command of the Polish Army issued an order in 1919 to establish the Upper Silesian 7th Rifle Battalion. In the same year it was transformed into the 1st Bytom Rifle Regiment. It reported directly to the Upper Silesian Front Command, and its task was to defend areas where there were clashes with German Border Guard units. Protection of the borderlands lasted until February 1920.
