The majestic seal of Emperor Joseph II Habsburg.
Made by Vienna around 1765-1790.
The large size of the so called a majestic seal intended for pressing wax or wax seals in a metal can with documents of high importance, e.g. nobility diplomas or ceremonial acts such as the establishment of a university, an act of granting city rights, etc.
Four seals were made for the capitals of the most important lands included in the empire: Vienna, Budapest, Prague and Lviv.
An identical specimen of this seal is kept at the Oesterreichische Staats Archiv in Vienna at No.57.
The offered seal was in the emperor's Lviv chancellery.
