Transylvanian thaler of Prince Sigismund Bathory (1586-1599), nephew of the Polish king, Stephan Bathory.
In the obverse legend, the letter O is overstruck into R, at the end of the inscription on the obverse. The engraver probably made a mistake and put the letters in the wrong order, hence the puncture.
Well preserved coin with only slight wear on high points and a fair amount of mint luster.
Likely previously mounted with light edge manipulation.
Obverse: torso of the prince in armour, to the right, a cross in front of him
SIGISMVNDVS BATHORI
Reverse: under the prince's miter, the coat of arms of Bathory family
