Aulus Hirtius was one of the consuls of the Roman Republic. Friend with Julius Caesar, he was his legate in Gaul. In the year of mintage, he was the praetor. After Caesar's assassination in 44 BC involved in mediation between the opposing parties. He was also a strategist and author of works on military topics. He added Book VIII to the work of Caesar De bello gallico. He died in 43 BC fighting against Antony.
