The year 80 BC was the year of the consulate of Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix and Quintus Cecilius Metellus Pius. That same year, Quintus Sertorius reached Iberia at the head of about 2,600 soldiers, and thus began a long and successful campaign against Sulla's forces. Quintus Cecilius Metellus Pius set out to restore order in Spain. The monetary triumvirs at that time were Lucius Procilius (Lucius Procilius Filius) and Gaius Publicius son of Quintus (Caius Poblicius Quinti Filius).
