After signing the treaty with the Persians, he returned home. During his reign, the 1,000th anniversary of the founding of Rome (AD 248) was celebrated. In 249 CE a series of revolts ensued, both Philip and his son were killed after their army was defeated at Verona by the forces of Traian Decius.
