Reverse: Spes standing facing, head left, holding flower and rudder

Aelius was the adopted son of Emperor Hadrian. He was elevated to the dignity of Caesar by him and was expected to be a successor, but unfortunately he died a few months before Hadrian. He is entitled L AELIVS CAESAR on his coins and is depicted with an uncovered head, curly hair, a beard, and a majestic face.

Aelius coins are generally among the rarer Roman coins.
