During this revolution and the subsequent civil war, over 20,000 types of banknotes were used across the vast expanse of the former Russian Empire. In addition to official issuers such as the Imperial Government and the Provisional Government, money was also issued by generals such as Denikin, Wragnel, Yudenich, Admiral Kolchak and many other Russian rulers.
