As part of the 1950 monetary reform, a new series of banknotes issued on July 1, 1948 was introduced into circulation, consisting of seven denominations. When the decision was made to print the new paper money needed for the reform, it turned out that PWPW's printing capacity was completely used up by the production of current banknotes. Soviet printing plants were in the process of printing paper money for their own reform, and therefore could not accept the Polish order. For this reason, they turned to other foreign paper money printing plants, which executed an order for the NBP between 1948 and 1950. Banknotes printed outside the country were imported to PWPW.
