It was established by the officer corps of the formation, most likely on September 21, 1916, on the initiative of the brigade commander, Colonel Jozef Haller. On November 30, 1916, the badge was approved by the Central Bureau of Publications of the Supreme Military Committee (the date of September 30, 1916 is also given). Its charter was approved by Colonel Jozef Haller in October 1916. It was registered with the Ministry of Military Affairs and allowed to be worn, by order of the Supreme Commander on May 5, 1920. It was awarded, by a special commission in 1916-1917, regardless of military rank, to all brigade soldiers or families of fallen soldiers, but without the right to wear it.
The total number of its bestowal is not known. Probably more than 6,100 were made.
